For the youngest solo travelers, the Hawaiian Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Policy provides them with maximum convenience and minimum cost when arranging safe transportation to their destination. During their flight, Hawaiian will look after them from the moment they board until they are handed off to the adult they choose. Hawaiian Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy defines unaccompanied minors as children aged 5 to 11 (inclusive) without a companion over 15 years of age.

Unaccompanied Minors: Rules and Restrictions

Domestic flights:

  • Children between 5 and 11 years (inclusive) can travel alone as Unaccompanied Minors after booking the service.
  • In the case of children aged 12 or older, they are allowed to travel alone or as unaccompanied minors if they wish (after booking the service

International Flights:

On international flights, Hawaiian Airlines does not offer the service for unaccompanied minors.

  • When traveling without their parents or with just one parent, children between 12 and 18 can travel alone; however, additional documentation may be required.
  • International flights do not allow unaccompanied minors between the ages of 5 and 11.
  • Under 12-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult companion at least 18 years old and traveling on the same flight.

Travel unaccompanied for children 12 years and older is accepted. Travel for children ages five to eleven (ages five to eleven) will be accepted if they are accompanied by another guest who is at least 15 years old and traveling in the same service class as them. As defined by Rule 12, children ages 5 – 11 who are not traveling with another guest who is at least 15 years old and in the same service class as the child are referred to as “Unaccompanied Minors” and must follow the special rules contained in this rule. Infants must also comply with these special rules. Each child’s or infant’s age will be determined at the date of travel, and all fees and rules will be applied accordingly.

Those children ages five to eleven years traveling alone or with one or more children aged 5 to 11 are considered unaccompanied minors. Anyone traveling as an Unaccompanied Minor must reach the age of five by the date of travel and must comply with the following rules:

Unaccompanied Minors Fees

A $35.00 fee is charged for each segment from the designated point of origin to the designated destination of an Unaccompanied Minor within the State of Hawaii, in addition to the cost of the ticket. In addition to completing and signing the Hawaiian’s Form HA O20 – Request for Unaccompanied Minors, the parent or guardian of the Unaccompanied Minor must also complete the Hawaiian’s Form HA O20.

Travel between the continental US and Hawaii is subject to a $100.00 surcharge for each Unaccompanied Minor when traveling between the State of Hawaii and the Continental US (each way). The only nonstop direct flight available for Unaccompanied Minors is one operated by Hawaiian Airlines.

Note -: If both drop-off and pick-up information and contact details are the same for the two (2) Unaccompanied Minors, a single fee will apply.

Documentation requirements for minors on Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines requires the following documentation for unaccompanied minors:

  • Form for unaccompanied minors
  • Consent form for parents
  • The child’s birth certificate or passport is under the Hawaii Airlines ID for minors policy.
  • Copy of a government-issued photo ID of the person picking up the child.
  • Please provide the name, phone number, and address of the parent who greeted the child at the destination.
